ROMANI FILM FESTIVAL TU+KINO

Roma DO exist in film!
Really! We’re just often invisible—both to major film productions and prime-time television broadcasts.
That’s why Tu+kino ventures into nearly uncharted territory, bringing the best of Romani filmmakers to (not only) Romani audiences. The films are diverse, ambitious, and high-quality. Comedies, dramas, horrors, documentaries, animation—everything you can think of, all happening in Brno!
As pioneers, we present a rich industry program led almost exclusively by Romani filmmakers. Audiences will get an exclusive look at their upcoming projects and meet them in person! A key part of the festival is the screening of films by Romani creators or films that explore Romani themes.
The first Romani film festival in the Czech Republic
The Tu+kino festival (“Tu” from the Romani word for “You”) was born in the office of the Romani audiovisual platform Tuke.TV. Originally envisioned as an echo of the international Romani festival Ake Dikhea?, which takes place annually in Berlin, we quickly decided to create our own independent festival. Led by producer Alice Sigmund Heráková, the Tuke.TV team joined forces to bring the very first Romani film festival to the Czech Republic.
Our goal is to show that Roma not only watch and love films but also make them. To highlight that our voices are as diverse as Romani identity itself—and that our stories don’t have to fit the glass-ceiling stereotypes, where non-Romani filmmakers so often place us.
The first edition took place from September 13 to 15, 2024.
